RICK AND BRETT HARSHBARGER - KEYSER,WV
Father and son Rick and Brett Harshbarger are truly die-hard Mountaineer and Zul’s fans … and collectively they have put together some pretty impressive streaks.  Rick’s current streak of attending WVU football games began on November 9, 1985 and he has only missed one game (for the birth of his daughter Candice) since the new Mountaineer Field was built in 1980.  In basketball, Rick’s current streak began on January 19, 1987, a home game vs. UMASS.  In total, Rick has attended around 150 straight home football games and 350 straight basketball games.  What makes this steak even more impressive is the fact that they live in Keyser … and especially during basketball season they often face brutal weather coming over the mountains to Morgantown.  In regards to braving all sorts of bad weather, Rick states “It’s just a way of life for us.  We think nothing of the trip to Morgantown.  People say they didn’t go to a game because of this or that and I say if you want to go bad enough, you’ll find a way”.
I met Rick and Brett on September 2, 1995 … WVU was playing Purdue.  This Saturday marked the first time Zul’s was ever sold at Mountaineer Field.  They were one of the very first customers to come up and buy a Zul’s.  In fact, they have purchased a Zul’s at every football and basketball game since then.  Brett would have been six years old then and he hasn’t missed a game or a Zul’s since.  I have watched him grow and I told his dad that when he got old enough he could work a Zul’s booth at a football or basketball game … but I forgot about the streak … his dad would never let him miss a game!  Every game I look up and see Brett smiling at the Zul’s booth as he picks up his frozen lemonade.  Shortly after I hear Rick’s voice boom out a “Hi Rob” and I see him wave to me amongst the throngs of people filing to their seats … I shout “Hi Rick” back, smile to myself and get back to scooping Zul’s because I know everything is OK with the world … the streak is still intact.
